  • Precise Adjustment mechanism
  • Soft Start

The Bosch PR20EVS Colt variable-speed palm-grip router works great for edging. Precise, accurate, and twist lock coarse & fine adjust works well, which was essential for us. A really great tool from Bosch.

It has a nice weight, power adjustments and soft start are standard features on this one. This tool excels at edging tasks like coves, ogees, round overs, etc. Fine adjustments to cutter height are easy, and no tools are needed for depth adjustment.

It’s quiet compared to other routers we’ve used. Really great for a single hand router and its compact design is suitable for 1/4 inch bits. Setup is fast, and changing bases is a snap.

For adjustments, it’s easy, but we recommend keeping it clean and greasing the fine adjustment mechanism to keep it in top condition. The base is good for trimming in hard to reach areas.

Offset base has its own roller and bushing guide which is useful for stabilizing the router and preventing gouging. Also, it works well for accurate joins between two laminate paths. We liked using this, and it has an excellent adjustment mechanism. It has a high-quality aluminum base. It held its depth well without much wiggle or movement. We found the fine adjustment easy to operate.

It has quite extraordinary power for its compact size. Plus, it’s super easy to use. It has good power for its size. Ergonomically, it has a good feel to it aswell. Accuracy wise, it’s great. It’s powerful, and we got it for a great deal as well.

The fixed base handle is good and will be comfortable even if you have large hands. The case is plastic, but it fits everything well. It’s a great router overall, and its excellent for one-handed operation. The large diameter of the plate is suitable for routing with more stability. The fine tune adjustment is excellent on this router. It has a good plunge stop. Can be used as both a plunge router and a fixed. Very high-quality build and performance is great. The price is great for its features, weight, and power.

The soft start feature comes standard on this one and makes things safer for handheld operation. It’s quiet too. Low vibration, and not a lot of noise while using it. The case is suitable for storing the unit. Easy to switch the motor between the plunged base and fixed base. Came in a huge box and a massive carry case which is good for storage. makita-xtr01z-678x381

Overview:

  • Cordless
  • Brushless Motor
  • Soft Start
  • Electronic Speed Control 10,000 – 30,000 RPM

The XTR01Z delivers excellent power and visibility. The design is tall on this router, and it feels very top heavy. It does have plenty of power though and works well with other bases. We found it easy to maneuver. Very stable tool and easy to adjust, it allows for movements in small increments. Makita delivers good value for the price. It has a high-quality aluminum base. Depth adjustments are quick and precise. You really can’t go wrong with this cordless Makita router. In terms of weight, its lightweight and its easy to handle.

In addition, it has a brushless motor, which is great for the overall life of the tool, and brushless tools also give better efficiency than brushed ones. The LED lights is great while working. Using the lights + fan increase visibility substantially while working. Very solid product coming from Makita.

DeWALT DW616 Fixed Base Wood Router

616dw-678x381-1

Overview:

  • Includes 1/4″ and 1/2″ collets
  • Flat Top For Easy Bit and Depth Changes
  • Fine Adjustments in 1/64″ increments

This is a heavy, stable, and powerful router from DeWALT. The DW616 is very powerful and its a piece of cake to cut through even cross grain portions. The starting torque is difficult to control due to the position of the router switch. Because the switch is in a bad place for this router, we needed to take our hand off the grip to turn it on and off.

Overall, in terms of power, it’s exceptional, and you can make it to do anything you need it to do. Changing from base to base on this one is harder than the Bosch, but after a while, you get used to it. It has excellent overall versatility.

The only bad thing is that it has a small power cord, so you’re going to need an extension cord if your outlet is far away.

611-678x381-1

Overview:

  • 1.25 HP Motor
  • Variable Speed Control
  • Dual LED Light

It’s very quiet compared to other routers. Gives very precise cuts. LED Light is awesome! Makes it really easy to follow the lines. Even though it’s a compact router, we find it great for everyday work.

Very smooth operation and precise cuts. One really useful feature is the ability to set the stop point. And, the depth adjustment is very straight forward and easy to use. Excellent tool overall and great quality for the price.

The LED light is well positioned and provides good visibility while working. Ergonomic design feels comfortable in your hand. High-quality router but we had some kickback when we hit knots in hardwoods. All in all though, its an excellent router for the price.

Below you can find our review on the Black & Decker BDCS50C Roto-BIT Cordless Screwdriver.

black-decker-bdsc-300x300

BDCS50C Cordless Screwdriver Review

We found this tool to be compact and versatile for small-to-medium sized DIY tasks.

Can’t attest much for the battery life as we only used to for an hour, but this battery operated cordless screwdriver will last you at least an hour and probably more. Comes with an AC adapter for charging.

It doesn’t have the best power for a cordless screwdriver, but it’s no cordless drill and wont really replace one.

Fits well into small spaces too. Has a nice lightweight feel to it.

It has an LED light which really helps seeing in dark spaces. It worked perfectly for some light tasks around the house.

Spins at 180 rpms and works well for screw driving tasks. It’s cordless and small which makes it portable.

It’s also really quiet, so the wife wont get mad at ya either. It has a nice pistol grip which is comfortable and a soft rubber grip.

Again, it doesn’t really have that much torque but we may be comparing it to cordless drills. For a cordless screwdriver though its a nice strong little tool. The LED light comes on when you press the trigger.

Should be good for anyone suffering from arthritis or any other issue where manual screw-driving is hard.

Has a forward and reverse button switch for easy drilling and driving. It’s a good household item for everyday use, but again it doesn’t really compare to a regular drill. Comes with a rotating bit cartridge for easy storage.

We love the included cartridge, its easy to use and you don’t have to go crazy looking for the drill bits. The on board magnet will hold extra screws so you can have a free hand while working.

Conclusion

All in all, it’ll get the job done for any small diy task you have around the house. Plus it comes with a 24 month warranty for peace of mind.

Good choice for DIY, it has a small compact 1.41lbs design, comfortable grip, led light, and its easy to use. We give this cordless screw driver 5 stars. If you’re looking for a new cordless screwdriver, be sure to check out our article on the top-rated cordless screwdrivers.

Below you will find our review of the Milwaukee 2415 Right Angle Drill.

Milwaukee 2415 Right Angle Drill

2415-20-2__72954.1581704267

Reviewed

This is an awesome right-angle drill. Drills clean and the LED light makes it easy to see in dark spaces. Easy to use drill + accurate drilling, but it’s not the cheapest of the right angle drill. We found the trigger to be very sensitive. The weight to power ratio is pretty well balanced.

Much better than their previous Ni-Cd version, this angle drill uses a Li-Ion battery. Turns screws great and the forward/reverse switch is pretty handy. The compact size makes it great for drilling in harder to reach and tight squeeze places that regular cordless drills cannot get into.

The drill is very heavy, but other than that it feels very nice to hold and easy to use. The batteries are small and light and the clutch works great. Really well made. The motor gives plenty of power.

The battery life is good and they also charge quickly. Doing work in tight quarters is easy with this angle drill and compact battery. Want more right-angle drill reviews? See our article on the top-rated right angle drills for a full list.

Best Impact Wrench 2019 — Impact Wrench Reviews

There are a lot of different models and brands of impact wrenches in the market today, so which is the best? You may have looked at Amazon for deals already, but you might be wondering with all the choices, how do you choose the best impact wrench! Don’t worry, in this article, we will discuss just that.

We found that the best impact wrench is the Milwaukee 2767-20 and we will tell you why below. First, let’s compare all of the other options so that you can pick the right impact wrench for you.

Here’s a table with our favorite impact wrenches and their specs.

Table of Contents

Best Impact Wrench

Name Type Torque Weight
Milwaukee M18 FUEL Impact Wrench Cordless 1400 ft lbs 5.9 pounds
DeWalt DCF899HB Impact Wrench Cordless 1200 ft lbs 5.8 pounds
Ingersoll Rand 2235 Ti Max Air Powered 1350 ft lbs 4.6 pounds

Here is a list of the best impact wrench, so you can compare options and choose the best one for you.

Milwaukee 2767-20 1/2″ Impact Wrench M18 with Friction Ring

2767-1-245x300

Let’s start with this excellent Milwaukee 1/2 impact. Cordless and battery operated — Milwaukee sets the bar high for this one. This is our top pick for impact wrench. It combines the right tool and the right price. It has a lot of torque in reverse, quite surprised with this and more power than an air impact wrench, definitely worth the price. Air tools will struggle to keep up with this. This is going to be the last impact you’ll ever buy.

Seriously, there no nut this wrench couldn’t take, this Milwaukee impact truly is a monster. Features 1000 ft-lbs of fastening torque and 1400 ft-lbs of nut busting torque. It took off lug nuts an air impact couldn’t even budge.

Batteries last a good while and its fast on the recharge too. Everyone at my mechanics shop knows these are excellent impact wrench, to the point that they just buy it. It’s a reasonable price and a powerful cordless impact. Milwaukee cordless tools got it right with this high torque and robust tool. I must say though it has massive power, it works great, no more pneumatic impact gun. The protective overmold provides protection against corrosive materials. Plus, the tool fits in your hand nicely.

Milwaukee has taken the impact wrench and made it cordless and powerful this is an obvious pick for best impact wrench. This impact wrench is a beast. It really has power that far exceeds my old air impact, and vs. my old air impact, it can’t even compare. Works great to remove those rusty lug nuts. This is probably the best brushless impact gun I have ever owned, on par with the most high-end air impacts.

Great features, lots of torque, a really great product at an attractive and affordable price. The compact design makes it useful for being able to reach hard-to-reach places. No need for air powered impacts anymore.

DeWALT DCF899HB Brushless 1/2″ Torque Impact

889hb-300x300

This is our favorite Dewalt in the market for a cordless brushless impact wrench. It has not let me down. This is another beast of an impact, and the 5 ah 20v battery is excellent.

A true powerhouse. If you are considering to get one of these to replace your air impact gun than its not a bad choice. This is way more convenient than pneumatic air powered impact wrenches! Plus those 5 amp batteries are great for all day usage. This wrench gives a similar response to pneumatic air tool versions/air impact wrenches just without the air, of course.

This DeWalt impact wrench combines cordless and high torque, and this is a true competitor vs. the Milwaukee 2767.

Didn’t struggle with taking off any lug nuts, so no complaints. Suitable for installing lag bolts. It also comes with a DeWALT standard heavy-duty warranty. The power setting, when tightening bolts, the impact is a useful feature to have. This impact works beautifully for taking out anything really (except your wife maybe). Excellent product with considerable power to a snap-on 1/2 air impact gun.

The DCF899 really beats the air hose again for an impact wrench, this wrench is cordless and provides a high amount of torque. This impact is one of the best we’ve ever seen, takes nuts without any effort at all.

Porter Cable PCE211 1/2″ 7.5 Amp Impact Wrench

porter-cable-impact-wrench-300x300

Features a 7.5 Amp Motor, 450 ft-lbs of torque, 2200 rpm, 2700 bpm and a 1/2″ hog ring anvil for easy socket changes.

Worked pretty well to get nuts off quickly, but was struggling to get some of the more rusty lug nuts loose. So this wrench is not quite in the same range as the impact wrenches we reviewed above, but it’ll get the job done.

Will make your work quicker, that’s for sure. But we do not see it in the same range of power torque that you would get from an air impact wrench. Plus this drill is slightly heavier than other impact wrenches. It’s a corded tool, so it isn’t quite as convenient as the impacts we reviewed above, but for the price, it’s an excellent overall wrench.

Excellent for removing lug nuts off with some effort, so not the best pick, however, we got it for a great deal! This wrench is a bit on the heavy side, but it’ll get your regular nuts in a few seconds.

If you’re looking for something on the inexpensive side, then this is a good pick for best budget impact wrench.

Ingersoll Rand 2235 Ti Max 1/2″ Impact Wrench

Ingersoll Rand 2235 Ti Max 1/2″ Impact Wrench

This thing has impressive power. This really outdid any other air powered Ingersoll Rand impacts I reviewed. If you prefer air powered, then look no further than this impact gun. An excellent choice for mechanics. This is our choice for best air impact gun for the money.

It packs a punch, and we didn’t struggle with a single nut. Plus we dropped this thing a couple of times, and it didn’t break, so it’s pretty durable. A fantastic impact wrench, this Ingersoll Rand is a beast in the shop.

Has some real power and works fantastic taking off old wheel hub nuts with no effort, makes the job a lot easier. This is the best impact wrench for the money.

It feels lighter than their previous lines of impacts, but they haven’t sacrificed at all on the power. You will have fun using this impact gun every day. Takes bolts with no problem; this is the best impact gun for mechanics.

Excellent control and one of the strongest and reliable IR impacts out there. Any mechanic would be satisfied with this impact gun. We would recommend this any mechanic looking to replace their old impact from Ingersoll Rand.

Dewalt DCF890B Compact 3/8″ Impact Wrench

dcf890b-300x300

This thing is nowhere near the power of the ones listed about, but it’s still a decent impact wrench for mid torque jobs.

If you’re upgrading from a crappy wrench, you’ll probably feel the difference with this 3/8 impact. But really, I don’t think you’ll move more than 100 ft lbs with this wrench.

The DCF890 3/8″ Impact Wrench is compact and lightweight allowing the tool to be utilized in tight areas while the 3 LED lights provide visibility in low lit areas. Plus, it has a brushless motor for increase power, runtime and durability.

Source

It’ll do an ok job though, and the price is a bargain at the time of writing this. Another good bargain pick, so if the price is right, you can’t go wrong.

Makita XWT08Z 1/2 in Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless

xwt08z-300x300

Features 740 ft lbs of fastening torque and 1180 ft lbs of break-away torque. This Makita impact wrench really impressed us, even on its lowest torque setting the response was great. It is pretty big, but it works great. The issue with this drill is that it is big and more cumbersome than in comparison to others.

Worked like a champ to take lug nuts of one of our trucks. This thing packs a lot of power, and it makes it difficult not to overtighten nuts. The tool is huge and bulky, but the ergonomic rubber coating gives it a nice feel. It’s huge in comparison to other power wrenches in the shop though. Overall, despite its size, this wrench is another beast from Makita.

Built for auto use, it’s a high performing and durable wrench. Similar to other impact wrenches when comparing the battery life. Price to torque ratio is, and it gives good overall value.

Takes bolts off within seconds. Pretty happy with the 4 ah battery. Nice balance between power and battery too. Only issue is the size and weight, but if those aren’t important to you then it’s a decent choice.

Pneumatic vs Electric vs Cordless

Pneumatic Impact Wrenches

Pneumatic Impact Wrenches, or air impact wrenches, are typically used in professional rather than home environments. Especially popular with mechanics and automotive garages, air wrenches are fast and powerful. High-pressure air is required for working with these air impact guns get a good quality air compressor and lines that are 200+ psi for multiple impact sockets. Way less portable than their cordless counterparts. You can get a portable air compressor, but they are heavy, cumbersome & bulky. If you go for an air impact, it can get quite expensive. Usually not a good choice for home usage.

Electric Impact Wrenches

Electric Impact Wrenches, or corded impact wrenches, are not as durable as air impact wrenches. However, they are still fast and powerful. It’s great for home usage because it just requires a plug and a socket. The downside to electric is that it obviously has a cord, which can limit your mobility. They are easier to move around compared to pneumatic wrenches since you don’t need an air compressor.

Cordless Impact Wrenches

Cordless impact wrenches, or battery operated impact wrenches, are becoming more and more popular. As battery life improves and they are starting to offer more and more torque. The power of some cordless impact wrenches match or even exceed air powered and electric powered impact wrenches. It works well to get into those tight workspaces. The downside to cordless versions is that you must always remember to keep it charged. It also is heavier due to the battery. Compared to air impacts, cordless impacts are larger than pneumatic wrenches. The advantage of going cordless is that you have more mobility to move around. And, if you go on long road trips, it’s handy to keep one of these bad boys in the car.

Conclusion

There ya have it, this article was all about the best impact wrench. We went into the best models and brands in the market today and gave our reviews on all of them. If you have any questions, you can write to us below by leaving a comment.

This Milwaukee Right Angle Drill Works for drilling and driving screws in tight compact spaces. It has an LED light which makes it easier to see in dark spots.

At first, this drill kept stalling and we were pretty confused, but we were just using it wrong. This drill has a torque limiter which you can adjust. Once you adjust the torque limiter, you’re good to go. It does have quite a bit more torque than we expected it compared to other higher end cordless drills.

Made in China though, so beware of that if you like USA only products.

Good power and uses the same batteries as other Milwaukee drills. Perfect tool for building cupboards. We were able to get a refurbished version and it works well. You can buy it for a bargain on Amazon if you go refurbished.

Good torque and comparable control to the Ryobi angle drill. This drill will get this into places you never thought you could never drill into.

The trigger is sensitive so watch your wrist because you could sprain it if the drill bit catches. Careful when drilling holes at high speed because if the drill bit catches it’ll be easy to sprain your wrist.

This is our pick for best budget right angle drill. It works well as a right angle drill, allowing us to get into tight spaces for quick and easy drilling.

It works well with other Ryobi 18V batteries. Has decent power and offers decent performance. The LED light was dim in comparison to other angle drills we reviewed, but its still pretty good.

Best Hammer Drill

[table id=14 /]

#1 DeWALT DCD996B 20V MAX Cordless Brushless XR 3-Speed Hammer Drill/Driver

dcd996b-300x300

Overview:

  • High performance transmission
  • High efficiency brushless motor
  • Up to 38,250 BPM
  • 3-Mode LED Light
  • Great for masonry, steel, brick, concrete, and other hard materials

We found this cordless model to be even better than some of the corded models! It’s a great choice if you’re upgrading from corded to cordless. It rips through concrete and stucco like its nothing. LED light is great and has 3 levels of brightness. Lots of torque and the chuck is strong. This thing truly is a beast, it’ll rip through your concrete and stucco like its nothing. We went through 2″ of concrete with hardly any effort.

This thing is no joke, it packs a lot of power, and drilling through steel, brick or concrete is a piece of cake.

Despite the incredible power, it still manages also to have a great battery life. Charging time is about 30 minutes to full battery. The 2amp battery is fine, but I’d recommend you get a 4amp battery as it lasts longer. In comparison to other models we reviewed, it uses a nice, high-quality metal chuck which stayed tight while working. The three adjustable motor speeds comes in handy for when you need to switch gears.

The hammer drill function works really well. Like most hammer drills, this thing is LOUD, like seriously loud. Given that, it’ll go through your brick and concrete with no problems, this thing is a beast in terms of power and is worth every dollar. Just have to make sure the wifes okay with you making all that noise.

The adjustable torque settings allow you to adjust power as needed, so it’ll go through your concrete and brick with no issues. Excellent torque and feels solid in your hand.

It’s also much lighter than previous versions of DeWALT hammer drills, but they haven’t sacrificed any on features, power, or battery life! It has a good weight to power ratio, and we recommend this drill. The LED light is powerful and bright. It works really well, uses a brushless motor for longer drill life and efficiency. can’t complain about this solid product from DeWalt. Furthermore, it just feels good in your hands with its rubber grip, which is good quality and it has a nice ergonomic design. The chuckless system is awesome for easy and fast bit changes. It’s a quality hammer drill at a reasonable price.

Another useful feature is this adjustable work light on this drill, not needed for everyone, but definitely nice to have. I don’t think you can go wrong with this hammer drill from DeWALT. The LED light is really outstanding, with its auto on off and 20-minute timer feature, in addition to the three levels of brightness. The LED lights are a really nice addition for us. It’s almost too powerful, you need to use the second handle when using it or it’s going to fly out of your hands. And do your ears a favor, and invest in some good ear plugs.

  • Battery Charges Quickly
  • Good Battery Life

This brushless hammer drill is currently the fastest version from Milwaukee. It delivers 2000 RPM, 3200BPM and in terms of torque, it delivers 1200 in-lbs.

We found this drill easy to work with due to it’s lightweight and compact design.

In terms of battery life, it took about 1 hour to charge the battery fully and lasted a full workday of 8 hours.

This cordless hammer drill has two versions. The first version includes the ONE-KEY technology. The second version is the non ONE-KEY version, which is slightly cheaper.

ONE-KEY makes it possible to connect your drill to your smartphone to customize, manage, and track the hammer drills performance and location. If you have tools that “go missing” then you’ll like this feature. Hold your employees accountable for their tools and stop taking a loss.

It comes with a 5-year warranty, has an excellent lightweight design, good battery life, and good torque. All in all, it’s a really great tool.

Overview:

  • 8.5 AMP Motor
  • 2.4 ft-lbs Impact Energy
  • Up To 5100 BPM
  • D Handle for Easy Control
  • Vibration Control

The Bosch GBH2-28L 1-1/8 In. SDS-plus Bulldog Xtreme Max Rotary Hammer uses a 8.5 Amp motor. It gives 2.4 ft-lbs of impact energy and up to 5100 BPM. The integrated sensor stops tool rotation during bit bind-up situations. The ergonomic D handle makes it easy to control. Also has a reverse trigger for accurate bit starting. Combines ergonomic design with a powerful hammer function. The hammer drill provides comfortable handling using its counter-balanced Vibration Control. In terms of weight, it’s similar to other hammer drills at 6.9lbs. This versatile drill gives three options: drilling only, hammer drilling, and chiseling.

It’s the perfect choice for basement refinishing. Also works well on old tiles and concrete. This rotary hammer drill from Bosch makes drilling into concrete simple. The hammer/hammer-drill mode can break down and drill into concrete with no effort. We also used it to remove a few old tile floors, and it did so with no issues.

Overall, its a good hammer drill for the money. The only thing is that you need SDS drill bits or you need an adapter if you’re going to use regular drill bits. So beware of that before purchasing.

#6 Makita HR2475 D-Handle SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer Drill

makita-hr2475-300x300Overview:

  • 3 Mode Operation: Rotation, Hammer Rotation, Hammer Only
  • Torque Limiter
  • Multi-angle bit positions
  • Great for concrete, rocks, granite and more

Features a one touch sliding chuck for quick bit changes. Has a rubberized soft grip for increased comfort. Delivers 2 ft lbs of impact energy. Similar to the Bosch GBH2, this one gives three modes of operation: Rotation Only, Hammer with Rotation, or Hammer Only. Bit binding gear damage is prevented using a torque limiting clutch. The bit can be set at 40 different bit angle positions.

This thing does a fantastic job with both concrete and rocks. It worked great to break up some concrete for a job we had to level out some floor in the basement. Also worked really well for making holes in concrete, there is nothing like SDS for drilling. To drill a couple of inches into concrete, it only took a few seconds with this thing. It is also perfect for breaking up granite. All in all, it’s a pretty great tool to have. It is comparable to the Bosch hammer drill we reviewed above.

The only issue was the amount of heat this unit produced. It gets hot after a bit of use, so be careful of this. Overall, this drill is light, has a lot of power, and the D-Handle grip makes it easy to control.

How to Choose a Hammer Drill

black-black-and-white-close-up-1496139-678x381

To choose a good hammer drill, consider the following:

Corded or Cordless?

Consider whether you’ll need to be drilling in a place where an outlet is available. If not, then you’ll need a cordless hammer drill. Otherwise, a corded hammer drill will suit you just fine. Corded options have the benefit of not having to worry about charging batteries, they also (most times) offer better performance per dollar.

Reliable brand

There are many brands of hammer drills. But which is the best? The best brand of hammer drill is DeWALT. DeWALT is currently dominating the marketplace for hammer drills, and the reason is simple, they are offering exceptional performance for a great price. Other good brands include Milwaukee, Makita, and Bosch. All of these companies offer good support, performance, value, and warranties. Going with an “off” brand may be cheaper but consider your needs in terms of warranty and support too.

Brushed vs Brushless

When choosing a hammer drill, you can choose between two motor types: brushed and brushless. We recommend brushless as they last the longest and in the long run, you will not have to buy another hammer drill. Now brushless drills have the disadvantage of being more expensive, but they also last longer and use less battery. Want to know more? See our article on brushed vs. brushless drills.

Good Battery Life

Hammer drills require a lot of power, and thus a good battery. As you many know, there is nothing worse than having your battery run out while you’re working. If you choose to go cordless, remember to choose a drill that gives you enough time to work for however long you need it to. Lithium-ion batteries are preferred over Ni-Cd as they last longer, require less maintenance, and hold their charge for a longer time when compared to their Ni-Cd counterparts. If you use your hammer drill infrequently then, Lithium-Ion would be an ideal choice as they retain their charge for longer.

Power

Consider what you’ll need to drill through. Hammer drills are best used for drilling into stone, concrete, masonry, brick, and other hard to drill through materials. If your drilling through soft wood then a hammer drill will be too powerful for your needs and you should opt for a standard cordless drill instead. Some hammer drills, however, have the feature that can turn off the hammering force which allows the drill to act as a regular standard cordless drill.

Conclusion

Hammer drills are best suited for materials such as concrete, brick, stone, granite, and other hard materials. If you attempt to use a regular cordless drill, you may damage the motor. Instead of breaking your normal cordless drill, read our reviews on the top-rated hammer drills and brands. Use this information to find the best hammer drill. What is the Difference Between a Cordless Drill and an Impact Driver?

Confused about the difference between a cordless drill and an impact driver? Don’t worry in this article we will discuss just that. If you’re wondering when to use an impact driver vs drill then you will find the answer to this question below.

Cordless Drill vs Impact Driver

What is the difference between cordless drills and impact drivers?

There is one major difference between cordless drills and impact drivers: impact drivers apply more torque than a standard cordless drill. Cordless drills are good for drilling holes and driving small screws, whereas impact drivers are better for tasks requiring high torque such as drilling through metal or pressure treated wood.

What is the advantage of using an impact driver?

The main advantages of Impact Drivers are that they make it easier to drive large fasteners, long screws, and make it easier to drill through harder materials. However, you cannot overlook the major disadvantage: impact drivers are not ideal for precise drilling. Cordless drills are better for drilling regular holes, driving small screws and more precise drilling.

Conclusions

To summarize, impact drivers are better than cordless drills for driving large fasteners, long screws, and tasks requiring high torque. Cordless drills are best suited for drilling holes, driving small screws and precise drilling. Choosing an impact driver vs drill is a choice made based on task you need to perform.

Drill Specs

[table id=11 /]

Ergonomics

We found this drill easy to work with due to it’s lightweight and compact design.

Battery Life

This cordless 18v hammer drill uses the REDLITHIUM technology which in Milwaukee’s words, “delivers more work per charge and more work over the life of the pack than the competitors.” We found this to be true during our testing. Milwaukee hammer drill reviews on Amazon seem to confirm the same.

In addition to this, this Milwaukee 18v Hammer Drill features their REDLINK PLUS Intelligence which prevents damage to the tool and battery due to overloading or overheating.

It takes about 1 hour to charge and lasted us a full 8-hour work day without running out of battery.

ONE-KEY Technology

You can choose to get this drill with or without the ONE-KEY technology. The ONE-KEY technology makes it possible to connect your drill to your smartphone to customize, manage and track the hammer drills performance and location.

You can store up to 4 custom profiles for specific fasteners and materials and have total control over the output speed and power needed for the task. These can be uploaded to the “cloud” as well so that you can access them anywhere and anytime.

If you have tools that go missing, then you’re gonna love this feature. The app will track the drill within a distance of 100ft from your phone. Great for tools that decide to “take a walk”

Obviously, the non ONE-KEY featured hammer drill is slightly cheaper than the non ONE-KEY version, and this would be an individual choice to make depending on your needs and budget.

Conclusion

Overall, this tool excelled in terms of power, battery life, weight and it comes with a 5 year warranty. We give this cordless hammer drill from Milwaukee 5 stars. Want more hammer drill reviews? Check out our article on the best hammer drill.

Black & Decker LDX120C Review

ldc120c-best-budget-cordless-drill-300x300

This cordless drill is perfect for small tasks.

It is a good choice if you’re a homeowner. We found this drill comfortable to hold. It is not the best for tight or hard to access spaces because of its heavy weight. It does however hold drill bits securely and it is easy to change drill bits while working.

Professional contractors or people needing to drill through more than just wood, should choose a better drill. You can read our best cordless drill reviews here.

Drill Info:

Battery Type Lithium Ion
Torque 115 in-lbs
Power Source Cordless
Chuck Size 3/8 inch

It will not go through concrete, this is a drill that is more on the budget side. If you want to drill through concrete or drill through brick then we recommend getting a good hammer drill instead.

That doesn’t make it bad, but just not powerful enough for other than DIY uses. Overall, it’s a decent budget homeowner drill. We give it 4 stars, because it offers excellent value to homeowners. This drill was our top rated pick for best cordless drill for homeowners.

Milwaukee 2767-20 High Torque ½” Impact Wrench Review

2767-245x300

Put away the air compressed tools and switch to the this powerful Battery Powered Impact Wrench from Milwaukee. This cordless impact wrench delivers 1000 ft-lbs of fastening torque and just over 1400 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque.

Pros:

  • Compact – measures only 8.39″ in length
  • 4 Mode Drive Control – Gives more control over fastening speed and torque
  • Anti Corrosion Casing – Case prevents damage from chemical corrosion

Cons:

  • Weight – heavy compared to other impact wrenches

In our opinion, this is a very good impact wrench. It gives enough power and is priced at an unbeatable value. The only disadvantage we could find was its weight, other than that, this cordless brushless Milwaukee impact driver, outperforms on pretty much every other aspect. We give it 5 stars.
