Bosch PS31-2A Cordless Drill Review

We really liked the compact and lightweight design on this drill. The drill kit came with two batteries, the drill, a Bosch bag, and a fast charger.

The two batteries are great because you can leave one on the charger and swap it out when it runs out. Though, I have to say, I don’t think you’ll have an issue with battery life unless you’re doing intense drilling. Battery should last at least an entire day of light usage and 4 hours of heavy use.

The quick charger included with this drill charges the battery to full in only 30 minutes. Battery life is not an issue with this drill.

It also features an LED light which is helpful for lining up holes in dark places.

The design and quality are very high, you can tell the difference between this and lower end drills immediately. It’s a lightweight tool too, making it easy to handle, and it fits well in your hand.

For those who are not huge fans of 18v and 20v cordless drills, then this is a suitable choice. It delivers enough power for any homeowner in a compact size and offers excellent battery life. Looking for the best cordless drill? See our article on the best cordless drill.

Black and Decker BDCDD12C 12v Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill Review

We love the small and compact design of this drill. It will work great for light DIY tasks around the home. The included LED light is handy to have when drilling in dark places.

Has enough power for light screwing tasks and for drilling small holes. The torque adjustment feature is easy to use and a useful feature to have because it prevents stripping of screw heads.

It comes with a 12V MAX Lithium Ion Rechargeable Battery and a fast battery charger. The battery life isn’t the best, but its will be plenty if you’re not drilling all day.

The lightweight and compact design makes it portable. Even with the battery attached, it is still lightweight. Furthermore, the lightweight design makes it easy to control and handle. It would make for an excellent beginner drill, because of its lightweight design. A good choice if you want to get your kid started with DIY.

The included LED work light is a useful feature to have when you’re drilling in dark spots. One bad thing is the positioning of the LED light which makes it useless at certain angles.

We also found the chuck on this drill harder to tighten in comparison to other drills, but it shouldn’t be an issue for most people; however, if you have arthritis or some other condition then consider a different drill.

Overall, this is a light compact drill suitable for any small drilling/driving task you’ll encounter around the house. For extra assurance, this drill also comes with a 24-month Black and Decker warranty.

Milwaukee M12 12V 3/8-Inch Drill Driver Review

We really love the feel to this drill. Very easy to handle because it’s nice and light. Battery lasted us an entire day on the job. The battery life is quite amazing on Milwaukee brand drills in general. Furthermore than batteries charged fully in 30 minutes. The chuck holds the bits securely. The metal ratcheting chuck makes it easy to change drill bits. If you get the kit then you get an additional battery that you can throw on the charger and swap it out when the first one runs out, so you’ll never run out of battery with this one.

Milwaukee is a great brand, and they are known for their excellent high quality products. This product is no exception to that. For most, the 12V version provides enough power to complete pretty much any DIY tasks. The compact size is good for tight and hard to access spaces. It lets you go places you wouldn’t usually be able to go to with an ordinary 18V-20V drill. It’s an excellent design with an ergonomic grip to boot. The LED light helps illuminate your workspace and is perfect for drilling in hard to see spots. The lightweight design also makes it very portable. It uses a variable speed trigger which is adjustable up to 1500RPM.

The price for the bare tool is fantastic for such a high quality drill. In addition, Milwaukee offers a 5 year warranty with this drill! All in all, it’s a great compact cordless drill that offers plenty of power for pretty much any home/DIY task you’ll ever encounter.

Bosch DDS183B Cordless Drill Review

This was our #1 pick for best cordless drill. It is much more compact and lightweight than anything we have tested in the price range. We love the feel of this drill and its ergonomic design, which makes it really easy to handle.

Bosch DDS183B Product Review

The whole thing weighs only 2.6 pounds, and the short head makes it easy to work in inaccessible locations. Don’t let its small size fool you, this Bosch drill is the most powerful drill in its class, delivering just over 500 in-lb of force.

The Bosch DDS183B 18v Cordless Lithium-Ion EC Drill uses an efficient brushless motor which provides a longer battery life and a longer overall tool lifespan.

This drill features KickBack Control which causes an immediate stop in case of blockage or a potentially dangerous torque reaction. This kind of attention to detail is what really sets the tool apart from the others we tested. You can just feel the quality difference between this drill and lower end drills.

The DDS183B Compact Tough 1/2-in drill is suitable for any handyman, amateur or semi-professional contractor.

In our opinion, this is the drill to get. The Bosch DDS183B is the top-rated drill in the market, and it is priced better than many of the other so-called “better models.”

Black & Decker LDX120C Review

This cordless drill is perfect for small tasks.

It is a good choice if you’re a homeowner. We found this drill comfortable to hold. It is not the best for tight or hard to access spaces because of its heavy weight. It does however hold drill bits securely and it is easy to change drill bits while working.

Professional contractors or people needing to drill through more than just wood, should choose a better drill. You can read our best cordless drill reviews here.

Drill Info:

Battery Type Lithium Ion
Torque 115 in-lbs

It will not go through concrete, this is a drill that is more on the budget side. If you want to drill through concrete or drill through brick then we recommend getting a good hammer drill instead.

That doesn’t make it bad, but just not powerful enough for other than DIY uses. Overall, it’s a decent budget homeowner drill. We give it 4 stars, because it offers excellent value to homeowners. This drill was our top rated pick for best cordless drill for homeowners.

Brushed or Brushless — Which is Better?

Confused about whether to get a brushed drill or a brushless drill? Don’t worry in this article we will discuss just that.

Brushless vs Brushed Drill

What is the difference between brushless and brushed motors?

There is one major difference between brushless and brushed motors: brushless is more efficient and uses less power. Brushed motors cost less and use more battery, whereas brushless motors cost more, last longer and use less battery.

What is the advantage of using a brushless drill?

The main advantages of Brushless Drills are that they last longer, require less maintenance, and use less battery. Amid all those benefits, you cannot overlook the major disadvantage: brushless drills cost more compared to brushed drills.

To summarize, brushless drills are better than brushed drills in terms of efficiency, maintenance, and battery usage. Brushed motors cost less than brushless motors. Our recommendation is to choose a brushless drill unless cost is a major factor. If you need a new cordless drill be sure to check out our top picks for the best cordless drill.
